The Catalan Federation Against Cancer (FECEC) and the Condis supermarket chain have raised a total of 63,114 euros as part of the charity initiative ‘Posem-li Pebrots al Càncer’, which aims to support patients oncology and spread the support work carried out by the entities affiliated to the FECEC to improve the quality of life of people with cancer and their families.
This campaign, promoted for the tenth consecutive year, was held last March 14, 15 and 16, and during these three days, customers of Condis supermarkets and the public in general were able to collaborate in this initiative through the purchase of solidarity peppers. This year, 42,076 bags of peppers were sold, selflessly contributed by Agroponiente, at a symbolic price of 1.5 euros each in all the Condis establishments throughout Catalonia, both as own stores and as franchises. Each mesh had a red and a green pepper, and the funds raised will be used to develop psychosocial care projects for cancer patients and their families.
“From Condis we have once again promoted this solidarity initiative to support all the people who suffer from this disease and their environment, making available to the public all our establishments, both our own and franchised, to promote this campaign /em>” explained on the one hand Lourdes Bullich, Head of Public Affairs and Communication Affairs. He also wanted to highlight how “citizens have responded very positively for another year, collaborating with the purchase of these solidarity peppers”.
On the other hand, Maria Assumpció Vilà, president of the FECEC and the Oncolliga Foundation wanted to highlight the role of campaigns such as ‘Posem-li Pebrots al Càncer‘ because“with this initiative, we make the population more aware of the disease. In addition to giving visibility, the campaign also helps the federated entities in order to be able to continue offering their services of psychosocial attention and support to people with cancer and their relatives and carers”.
Record number of volunteers on the tenth anniversary of the initiative
This year was the tenth edition of this campaign. This initiative has raised nearly 709,000 euros in these ten years, which are used to support more than 10,000 cancer patients and their relatives and carers each year.
In this tenth edition, ‘Posem-li Pebrots al Càncer’ has had close to 1,200 volunteers throughout the Catalan territory, a record number, who have been responsible for disseminating the objectives of the campaign and making known citizens the support work carried out by the entities affiliated to the FECEC. Of these volunteers, 300 have been secondary school students who participate with the federated entities through the subject of Community Service.
